| What
is the difference between psychotherapy, counselling
and life coaching?
Very
briefly, …
Life coaching
focuses on building a bright and beautiful
future for you. It is about helping you
to achieve your goals, to move from where
you are to where you want to be. (Read more
about life
coaching)
Counselling
is about dealing with a specific problem
or issue in your life. It aims to find a
workable solution to the situation as quickly
as possible. (Read more about counselling)
Psychotherapy
goes much deeper and is a longer-term therapy
than either life coaching or counselling.
This is about not just finding a way to
hold it together but resolving the issues
at root. (Read more about psychotherapy)
Which one would be
best for you?
Life coaching
is suitable for people who are basically
not unhappy but who feel stuck or frustrated
because they can't seem to make things happen.
If you want some guidance, support and encouragement
in order to take your life to the next level
- or to change your life completely - life
coaching is probably for you.
Counselling
helps you through a specific difficult patch
in your life. For example, if you have recently
been through a trauma, if you are struggling
with a current relationship or if you want
to prepare for an upcoming ordeal (e.g.,
a court case), counselling could be for
you.
Psychotherapy
is for people who are angry, sad and/or
scared as a result of the past. If, for
example, you consider your life futile,
if you can't let go of a situation or relationship
from years ago, if your mind is full of
someone else's opinions rather than your
own, psychotherapy is almost certainly for
you.
If you're not sure whether you would benefit
most from life coaching, counselling or
psychotherapy, we will be happy to discuss
it with you.
